The Role of Habits in Learning New Skills
Exploring how regular practice and habit formation contribute to the successful acquisition of new skills and knowledge. The blog post discusses personal experiences with using apps for language learning, mental math, and vocabulary, emphasizing the importance of consistent practice.
Today, I want to talk about the role of habits in learning new skills. We all know that when we practice something regularly, it becomes easier to learn and perform. On the other hand, if we only learn something once but never apply it, it’s difficult to put that knowledge into practice.
For example, I had to understand and recognize intervals by ear for my conductor’s exam. At first, this task was very challenging, but after practicing for 10 minutes daily for about 30-40 days using a helpful app, I was able to master it and pass the exam. Similarly, I use apps to help me with tasks like mental math or vocabulary learning.
I use the Babbel app for language learning, Elevate for tasks like mental math or concentration, and Drops specifically for vocabulary learning. Let me know which apps you regularly use, what you’ve learned from them, and how they support your ongoing learning process.
My goal is to supplement these existing learning resources with videos and podcasts that are already part of our everyday media consumption.
